Wholesome Wednesday | Worship

I’m just not happy today. Sadness has come in uninvited and has stolen my joy. There, I have admitted to it.

I’m not usually one that will allow worry in. Most of the time I can see the sunshine through the rain, see the glass as half full, a ‘look at the bright side’ optimist if you will. For me, it is second nature to see the good… and definitely a little naive to the bad.

So there is my problem. I have recognized some denial that I have to work through and now that I see it, it has broken my heart and in comes the sadness.

I haven’t lost hope, however. Can I get an amen?

You see I have a God that heals the brokenhearted. Psalm 34:18 & 147:3. I have hope in that He is right by my side, no matter how far away I feel He is from me. (Joshua 1:9) He promises me that He cares for me and to begs me to come to Him. (1 Peter 5:7) I have a God that understands my grieving and sympathizes with me. (2 Cor 1:3-4)

David, the psalmist, teaches us a lot about sadness and then there is Job who had his fair share of loss and sorrow. And let’s not fail to mention our Savior who experienced great sorrow as he hung on the cross. It is a completely normal feeling to have sadness. We don’t have to feel so guilty for grieving but we do need to allow it to help us to grow, that way we can be there for others when they are down. (Romans 12:15).

If you are reading this today and you are fighting against the enemy with depression, grief, denial, anger or any negative behavior, I may not be able to promise you’ll feel better after reading about my sadness, but I can say with certainty that if you lean on our powerful, comforting God, He will take care of you.

I challenge myself today to open His Word and meditate on His promises, and I challenge you to do so also. Let us be reminded today that “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28.

There is a hymn we sing at church and the chorus says “My hope is built on nothing less,
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name., On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.”

I will be humming that to help get me through the day.

{This may not be the kind of wholesome Wednesday post you are used to but it is raw and admits to truth and feeling and overcoming.}

Maybe you have a favorite song that encourages you when you’re down?

What Bible Verses do you find comfort in?

  1. We sang a song at church a few weeks ago that I had never sang before. It was, “ Father God, just for today.” It’s one I have in my head constantly now. To me it is a song for when someone is just in a bad spot and they are asking God to just, in that weak moment, be with them. Part of it says, “Father God, just for today, help me walk, your narrow way. Help me stand, Incase I fall…..” It’s a beautiful song.

    Thanks for sharing this today Lindsay. Love you!
